The 5 Year Journey is a Pastoral Apprenticeship program through Zion City Church. The goal of the The 5 is to walk along side every Pastor In Training as they embark on the journey of stepping into biblical authority and responsibility through teaching, personal mentorship, and pastoral care. These 5 years are going to be challenging in more ways than one. The Elders of Zion City Church will be investing into the lives of each Pastor in training all of the wisdom, theology, practical ministry insight God has taught us.

4 Commitments For The 5 Year Journey I will listen to, trust, submit myself fully to the Elders of Zion City Church and the training process of the 5 Year Journey I will put my whole heart into whatever I put my hands on. No assignment, task, opportunity will not receive the very best of what I have to give. Excellence and hard work will be what I bring because all I do is unto Jesus. I will be honest with myself and others, even if it costs me something. Vulnerability, humility and candor are the only way I can become who God has called me to be and live in community while maintaining integrity. I will not allow decisions I make in the dark to keep me from bringing them to light. I will sit at the feet of Jesus. Apart from Him I can do nothing. He is my Lord and my teacher, the one who I follow all the days of my life.

Assignments

Written Book Reviews At the completion of each book there will be a 3 paragraph summary of the book submitted to the Elders of Zion City Church via email. Those reviews will be read and discussed during one on one sessions. Monthly Workshops Each month we will gather as a group to learn together. The 5 is not merely an individual journey. It is a cohort. We will have lectures, discussions and conversations about theology, practices and postures of being pastors. Mentoring Quarterly you will have a 1hr conversation with an elder where specific guidance, advice & frameworks will be discussed catered to your experience, ministry, growth. This is where rubber will meet the road and we can have “on the go” conversations about life, ministry, pastoring, theology and any other questions or concerns you may have. Prayer Room Each week, it is required to attend the weekly prayer room gathering. To be a pastor means that your life is shaped by prayer. As a pastoral team we commit ourselves to pray together. Right now once a week for 1 hour In total each week will require est 2hr 30mins to complete all tasks, assignments and required reading. Each of us have this time if we make time for what matters most.
